cantilever

Created for an Architect with white walls and beige finishes. Her favorite colors displayed in accessories and a light blue leather chair.
Clean horizontal and vertical shapes make up this painting titled, "cantilever." The juxtaposition of simple linear forms, with loose brush strokes, was exactly what this Architect wanted in her new space.

spring swing

We have been waiting all Winter for the "swings to not be frozen anymore."
After a long walk in the sunshine today, it was time to check out the park.
Yep, the swings are back in order!

ahoy

These large comissioned paintings are for a baby boy's room with a mature nautical theme.

Hanging in the nursery wall, among large monogram letters and a striped ceiling, these sail boats are transitional enough to remain in the space as it becomes a "big boy room."

shades of sienna

After a recent trip to Sedona, I feel refreshed and inspired!
The weather was perfect for hiking and eating great meals outside every day. I always felt incredibly calm and relaxed (even after two double lattes)! They call this the “vortex” experience.
What an amazing trip! I love that I was surrounded by a thousand different shades of sienna, my favorite color, which is also the base for every painting that I create.

mod window treatment

This modern window treatment was the result of a vision. A small eating nook needed to kick it up a notch.
I added a pop of color while softening the space with a clean, graphic motif. Measured to precisely fit within the space, a shadow box effect was achieved. This window panel was created from one long piece of wood cut to size at Home Depot for $1.97! A Designer table cloth was then stretched around the wood to create a stretched canvas look.
By hanging the window panel over the existing wood valence, it can easily be taken down and re-wrapped with a new fabric to transform the feel of the space as needed.

green piggy

The inspiration piece for this modern nursery was a cute, green piggy bank!  The challenge was to establish a color scheme for the nursery that is gender-neutral. Lime green became the main color, with accents of blue or hot pink upon the baby’s arrival...

I created these three paintings for the baby boy’s modern nursery. They were the perfect touch over the changing table with the white mobile overhead.

(each painting measures 10" x 10")

your oasis

Recently a few of us had the opportunity to stay at Hotel Ivy downtown. The lobby and rooms were decorated beautifully. My friend commented that she would love her bedroom to have the “hotel feel.”

I completely agree, there is something fabulous about a posh hotel room! The color palette needs to be soothing to you, warm tones and lots of lush fabrics. I always start each room with an inspiration piece.

In this case, it was a square textile from a previous Interior Design project that I used to upholster a side chair. I love the fabric so much that the entire room transformed around it. Next thing you know, it's like staying at a fabulous hotel…with a little more dust and a pile of clothes on the floor.

balance-laugh-love-friendship-dream

These magnets sit prominently on my fridge, among my many photos. My son often plays with the magnets (usually covering people’s faces in the photo and saying things like, “Where did Mommy go?! Oh, there she is!”)

I love these magnets because I literally want to “attract” and maintain these important elements in my life:
balance – laugh – love – friendship – dreams.

I have often heard that we are all magnets that attract situations, events, and people in our lives based on our core values/beliefs. What would your “magnets” say?

dropped bowl with scattered slices and peels

I This painting that captures the whimpsical spirit of the giant apple slices amidst unexpected architecture. (Installation located in Dada Park, Miami, Florida.) This large-scale sculpture by Claes Oldernburg was created just two years after he designed our Minneapolis iconic Spoonbridge and Cherry, a local favorite.

arbol del dinero

I purchased this plant last summer on a gorgeous day of shopping with friends on Grand Avenue. According to ancient principles of Feng Shui, the five leaves of this money tree stand for the five elements: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth. Harmony and prosperity are achieved by balancing these elements.
I bought it for my studio without reading the card attached which promises, “positive energy flow for you and your friends who receive this plant.” So far it seems to be working!
I feel even more positive energy from this calla lily plant because it's a gift from a friend.  More than four weeks ago and it is still blooming!

a barn in the city

Growing up in the cities, I absolutely love the urban landscape. However, for a few short years I lived in a fast-growing suburb with new homes stretching as far as the eye can see.

In contrast, when I gazed out the windows facing the backyard, my view was a beautiful old barn. After a long day of work downtown, I loved coming home to my private view of the countryside. This moment in time is captured in a horizontal painting that now hangs in my new home.

"just as the caterpillar thought her life was over...she became a butterfly"

I saw this quote on a piece of art at the Galleria last week and it made me smile. I can relate.
I recently resigned from my job in the corporate world after 6 1/2 years to pursue new design opportunities and expand upon my freelance art. I guess you could say that I am in the cocoon stage, waiting for the butterfly to emerge! It is ironic that last week I also received this note card in the mail with a butterfly on it. I have it sitting next to my computer and I plan to frame it. I love the colors and painting style, as well as the inspiration for what lies ahead...
