paint selection 101

One object that makes it to every design meeting: my paint color fan deck.  As a designer, I've memorized many of the colors by name.  I walk into restaurants or offices and find myself thinking, 'Oh that Portabello accent wall looks great next to Relaxed Khaki!'  I usually don't say that out loud...kinda weird.

Anyway, I absolutely love selecting the perfect color for a space.  I see many clients overwhelmed with the selection process, with paint samples taped all over, clearly stressed about the decision.

 I'm offering some helpful tips:

freckles

I discovered these press-on wall graphics from modernseed.com. The finish is similar to matte paint, so it looks like hand-painted circles...but they can be removed and re-used without damaging the painted walls. Great find!

mod window treatment

This modern window treatment was the result of a vision. A small eating nook needed to kick it up a notch.
I added a pop of color while softening the space with a clean, graphic motif. Measured to precisely fit within the space, a shadow box effect was achieved. This window panel was created from one long piece of wood cut to size at Home Depot for $1.97! A Designer table cloth was then stretched around the wood to create a stretched canvas look.
By hanging the window panel over the existing wood valence, it can easily be taken down and re-wrapped with a new fabric to transform the feel of the space as needed.

longer days,

more sunshine,

and the happy flower pillows spread cheer!

(a special thanks to Nancy for sewing these pillowcases out of crate & barrel napkins!)
