paint selection 101

One object that makes it to every design meeting: my paint color fan deck.  As a designer, I've memorized many of the colors by name.  I walk into restaurants or offices and find myself thinking, 'Oh that Portabello accent wall looks great next to Relaxed Khaki!'  I usually don't say that out loud...kinda weird.

Anyway, I absolutely love selecting the perfect color for a space.  I see many clients overwhelmed with the selection process, with paint samples taped all over, clearly stressed about the decision.
 I'm offering some helpful tips:

spark

Instead of a new year's resolution, I'm doing something a little different this year.

My personal goal: getting out of my comfort zone as often as possible.  So far, 2014 includes a networking event, coordinating a volunteer event with inner city youth, experimenting with new cultural cuisine, taking zumba/hip-hop classes (and fitting in some naps).

What's next? I have no idea...that's the fun part!

What do you do to spark energy and creativity?  Any recommendations for events in the Twin Cities, let us know!

scandinavian design

 A family-run company gets a new office with a Scandinavian twist...oh yeah, you-betcha (I couldn't resist).
I stopped at the job site today and I love it!  The new build-out will wrap up next week.

Scandinavian design is characterized by simplicity, minimalism and functionality.

The monochromatic color palette of blues, along with taupe and ivory, works well with their light wood trim and gray Herman Miller workstations!
The architectural details in the galley and restrooms are my favorite (more photos to come).

art escape

cold.   arctic.  windchill.
The buzz words in Minnesota this week.  So cold that all schools are closed today and tomorrow (-45 degree windchill).

Fortunately, over the weekend we broke out of the house for
an art day at the Walker Art Museum!

The Claes Oldenburg exhibit was interesting.   Indoor giant random sculptures of french fries, desserts, light switches, and toilets...

Outside, the Spoonbridge and Cherry by Claus Oldenburg was ours to admire in the sunny, above zero weather.

The warm, green house was a bonus.  Good for the soul.

studio time

Baby it's cold outside!
But in the studio there's warm chai latte, festive music, and architectural finishes for a new project…

happy holidays to you!

2014 color of the year

Hey color lovers, Pantone just announced the color of the year:

Radiant Orchid!

According to Pantone, this color is "an enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones that inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health."

For more than a decade, Pantone's Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in fashion, home and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design.

Ultimately the consumer decides…will you be wearing or buying Radiant Orchid this upcoming year?  It's fun to watch for the new "it" color!

december chill

The snow and cold have arrived!

That means digging out those hats and scarves.  Bundling up before heading to job sites...

At the Bloomington job site, the new office build-out is going well.  Looking forward to seeing the progress as this transforms into a Scandinavian-inspired workspace!

This morning's photo shoot went well at the newly remodeled IN Food Marketing and Design space!

Can wait to get the photos from Space Crafting, they do such a great job with architectural photography.  Check back soon to see the finished project.

opening soon

The excitement is building!
The newly designed auto collision center by Sienna Lynn Studio will open soon.

Here are some sneak peek snap shots:

build out

This...will soon be a new build-out for an engineer company:

Can you envision it transforming into a beautiful, functional workspace?  We can!
A modern office with clean lines and a Scandinavian twist.

Proposed architectural finish palette:

exterior challenge

Before:

An office building with a lack of curb appeal.

Sienna lynn studio introduces a warmer color palette to attract new tenants to the building.  New dark umber metal replaces the old shingles to achieve a more modern commercial look.  A band of 'spicy hue' paint adds a pop of color, while taupe paint creates sophistication and minimizes the angled protrusions by the windows.
