mad men and minneapolis

I'll admit, I started watching Mad Men after reading an article with photos of the award-winninng set design. The authenticity of the period in history is what intrigued me, and the story line has me hooked into the final season!

Described as a time capsule from the world of 1960's advertising in New York, the mid-century furniture takes center stage. The styles and details of the set design are so cool to see transform throughout the drama.

At the beginning of my interior design career I worked on various ad agencies in Minneapolis. I love designing spaces with purpose and intention.  Adversing agencies need to reflect their company brand, attract potential clients, and spark the creativity of employees.  Sienna Lynn Studio is currently working with one of the top advertising agencies here in Minneapolis.  With the final episode of Mad Men approaching, this real Minneapolis workspace design begins...much more exciting!

friday focus: BzBody Fitness

The excitement of working with other business owners who follow their passion is contagious!

Over the next few Fridays, I'm focusing on some unique and distinctive local businesses that Sienna Studio has the opportunity to work with.

BzBody Fitness is located inside Champions Hall, a multi-venue sports and event center.  It's filled with forward-thinking sports and fitness tenants. I had the opportunity to work with Shannon, the owner of BzBody Fitness.  After years as a personal trainer, her energy and expertise led her to to launch BzBody fitness studio in Eden Prairie, which offers the latest in group fitness and personal training.

Last week during our 30 below windchill spell, I (quickly) snapped this shot. The iconic Gutherie theater with the old Gold Medal Flour ruins building behind.

coffee house progress

Coffee house for millennials -- architectural finishes in progress.
The palette is fresh and light, with pops of color.  Aqua and yellow will add a bright compliment to the white walls, grey accents, polished concrete floors, metal and wood elements.  We're excited about the custom features and design details throughout.

2015 color of the year

It's here...the color of the year for 2015:

Marsala

For decades, Pantone's Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in fashion, home and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design. Here's what they say about the color that will be appearing throughout fashion and retail design in the near future:
“This earthy red has wine and a very warm brown underneath, which gives the feeling of groundedness, strength, and confidence,” says Leatrice Eisman, Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute. “It has a richness that lends sophistication.”

A departure from the last few years of bright hues, we're seeing mixed emotions on this color choice.  What's your reaction?

celebrate good times

This week we celebrated the little moments and the milestones.

Another year older means accepting my food intolerance and enjoying a delicious dairy-free cake, real paper cards from family and friends, blowing out candles and making a birthday wish.

The celebration continued into the weekend of our anniversary with (non-alcoholic) champagne as I start my third trimester of pregnancy. Grateful for health, family, friends and clients that make this journey the adventure that it is.

design in seattle

Interior designer's get-away to Seattle!

Lots of walking and talking, site-seeing and Starbucks coffee breaks.
Postcard views from the top of the Space Needle at sunset:

At the base of the Space Needle sits Chihuly Garden and Glass, an incredible display of the work of world-renowned glass artist (and Tacoma native) Dale Chihuly. AMAZING.

A couple of strolls through the iconic Pike Place Market to watch the fish throwing, and an abundance of food and flower displays.

A day trip with friends to Woodland and Duvall for the wineries and a farm-to-table culinary dinner.

Such a great trip. Cheers to friendship and travel.
